After spending three glorious week in Europe. I needed a shorter holiday to take the edge off. My best friend is getting married in two days. He even invited my mom and sister. So I'm off to Penang for a short gateway. I keep imagining food and more food.

Some of the coolest companies have expanded their boundaries beyond the typical soul-sucking office setup and created truly wonderful places to work.

Etsy's headquarters are as fun and offbeat as one would expect from such a homespun company. With plush cubicles themed on different designs, and wacky homemade paraphernalia everywhere, this office space seems oddly put together considering the variety of decoration.

The Selgas Cano architecture office in Madrid is truly out there. The office is literally engulfed by nature, sitting slightly below ground with a wall of glass as the only separation from the beautiful foliage. It is much easier to make it as an architect when your office is this astounding.

Pixar's headquarters personify the fun and childlike wonder of their films. With giant halls that look more like aircraft hangars, down to offices that look like a ramshackle neighborhood, each room has its own outrageous atmosphere. This is definitely a place where creativity is prized.

The facilities above look like a fancy new show floor for Volkswagen's Phaeton, their luxury vehicle. In fact, this swanky building is actually the Phaeton plant. Located in Dresden, Germany, this factory has to be the fanciest in the world. With top of the line equipment and an aesthetic that's far from the dirt and industrial feel of most car plants, this is a factory that clearly matches the feel of its cars.

The TBWA Hakuhodo ad agency's office feels like a walk in a park. With rolling green hills and lawn chairs as desks, this is definitely a building to put a client at ease. The building tells clients they think differently, and it would be difficult not to agree.

The Ogilvy and Mather ad agency brings their idea of a "carnival of ideas" to a new level with their jaw-dropping office in Guangzhou. Featuring the carnival staples of lit signs and carousel animals, the office's design is a delightful way to catch a potential clients attention.

MPV decided to add an office component to their warehouse, and came up with a novel and sustainable solution in the process. They used modern techniques to turn discarded cargo containers into something modern and remarkable.

Google is known for the extravagances in their offices, from technological toilets to free massages, it can seem like it would be impossible to get any work done over there. They spared no expense in their Zurich office, with slides and workspaces that are more like pods than desks.

From the pristine northern forests to the bustling streets of Stockholm, Sweden has a lot to offer – and plenty of cool, unusual and visually stunning places to stay while you're visiting. In fact, if swanky art hotels with live glassblowing and painfully hip bars bursting with local patrons aren't cool enough for you, you can literally sleep on ice at the world's largest ice hotel. These 12 hotels range from the simplest hut in the woods to luxurious accommodations in historic buildings.

ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

Sweden is home to the world's largest hotel made out of ice and snow. The ICEHOTEL began with a single igloo and now has 80 rooms, all made from over 10,000 tons of ice and 30,000 tons of snow. Available from mid-December to mid-April, the hotel is re-made and re-designed every year, with one-of-a-kind 'art suites', the world-famous Absolut Ice Bar, a restaurant and even an ice chapel.

It looks almost like a joke – could you really stay in a space that small, the size of a garden shed? But the Utter Inn is bigger than it looks – its second story is located underwater. Floating in the middle of Lake Mälaren, Utter Inn features two twin beds and a table in the bedroom and a small kitchenette in the upper room. Jump right off the hotel deck into the water, or just watch the fish from the windows in the bedroom.

Salt & Sill Floating Hotel, Klädesholmen

Like the lake idea, but want something slightly more conventional? Sweden has another floating hotel, the Salt & Sill, a minimalist 23-room barge that also serves as a top-notch seafood restaurant specializing in herring and fresh local produce. All 23 rooms have their own outdoor seating areas, but the hotel's sole suite has an extra-enticing benefit: a private roof-top jacuzzi. The hotel's location on the lake, by the way, is not a gimmick: the adjacent land simply didn't have any room.

Jumbo Hostel Plane Hotel, Stockholm

A junked 747-200 has a new life as a unique new hostel in Stockholm. Retrofitted with 25 guest rooms, from quad dormitories with bunk beds to private suites, the Jumbo Hostel retained the original lounge bar and first class seats, and some lucky visitors get to sleep in the cockpit, which has its own private bathroom.

Kosta Boda Art Hotel, Småland

Located in the heart of Småland's 'The Kingdom of Crystal', home to 13 glassworks, the eagerly anticipated Kosta Boda Art Hotel is a glittering showcase of glass art by the famed Kosta Boda. Each of the hotel's 124 rooms has been individually designed by the glass artists, and their influence is particularly notable in the hotel bar and in the spa, where swimmers can put on goggles to view a glass exhibit at the bottom of the pool. Take a seat in the restaurant and you can even watch Kosta Boda glassblowers blow and sculpt glass on a stage.

I was one of the people believing that our teeth and digestion system is designed to eat only vegetables like a herbivore (yes like a cow). We have flat molar teeth, no claws and acidity level just enough to wash down Palak paneer. Of course we've been downing anything that walks, fly and swim. I am not against nonvegs and I am not a vegetarian. But I only eat ethically and free range meat which is hard to find and cost four time more. So I thought for dinner I would just stick to the batura set with masala tea. The food is great and the Chana masala is too die for. I still remember we could get a decent food below $6 before. For my meal tonight I paid $10.40. 10% for service charge and gst at 7%. It was just tiffin not even a thali meal for which I need to pawn my hand.

I don't mind paying but I think it had to be reasonable.

After my last post on the $5000 Photocrati Grant, I started searching the net for other opportunities that aren't popularity based contest. I like Photocrati's grant because it is based on content and quality, not just how good you are at soliciting social media hype. Below are a helping of grants (and a couple of juried awards) I have found that are not asking you to ask friends to vote and are not preying on your photos to use them when you don't win. I am limiting the list to grants with a deadline before July 1st. Please note, these grants and awards are of high caliber (as evident by the prizes and grants involved) and often take a fair amount of work to prepare for. I realize some deadlines are quite short, but nothing ventured, nothing gained! And many are annual awards; while you may not qualify this year, now is a good time to start working on a body of work to submit next year.

Rojak for lunch

When I first moved to Singapore I was introduced to Rojak. A local dish of deep fried squid, potato, Tempe, lots of different type kuih, all refried again when you order. Served with onions, cucumber and green chilies. The dip is made of secret ingredients mainly groundnuts. Reminds me satay sauce. Since watchin the horrifying farm to fridge video i really did not want to eat chicken and meat anymore. The bloody video is playing my head like a movie on loop.

So for rojak today I only picked vege based. I'm sure the sauce has some shrimp in it but too bad.

I had a nice meal and made me remember the rojak stall at the now demolished stamford road national library.

You must have tried breads from Provence bakery. Recently I unearth another gem. Black sesame seed pizza, juicy thick slices of tomatoes with generous topping of mozzarella. Baked
to perfection. Sometime I got the hot from oven or you can get them warm it for you. You can also make it a set with coffee for $3.70. Great value. You can sit down and enjoy them. Free water is provided as well.

It must be the cheapest food you can in ion in a cafe environment.

Today was my off day and I spend the whole day at home cleaning and working on my computer. So I treated myself to a yakitori bento box.

Rice with mince chicken ball, bacon w asparagus, gyoza and some octopus and edamame balls in broth.

Creative ideas to recycle and reuse printed A4 papers

It's been a long time since I last made New Year's resolution. You know how that's like. You can get all hype up, write the list down, post it on Facebook and some fools even tweet it. Well it never worked for me. Recently I found out why. Actually it's very simple, it's like watching the news about a catastrophe in a faraway land. The visual stirs your emotions and you suddenly want to save the world, feed the poor and end hunger and poverty forever. What's really happening is you are getting attracted to the situation and feel you must do something. You close the TV and think about it for a while. You make a mental note and head to bed. The next day you wake up and tell yourself you will call the charity hotline to donate after you've finished your work that day. The least you can do. Of course this slips away due to busy schedule and you totally forget about it. This thought may resurface from time and time again, unfortunately the emotional attachment is not strong enough for you to act. This what happens to the bloody New Year's resolution. You write it down and forget about it.

So this year I just did a mental note to recycle more and spread ideas to save lady GAIA (not GAGA)!

and I keep reminding myself using post-it notes printed on recycled paper.

These are some of the things I have done!!

1) Implement the use of reusable envelopes for Inter-Office mail at work.

2) Started a business that's ethical and promoting eco-friendly and green ideas

3) My home office is paperless, everything starts with an e-.

For my studies I printed some notes on color and did not print them on both side, I usually print on the DUPLEX settings on the printer. It was over 20 pages and I was a bit worried. I could have just drop it in a recycling bin, but I found some creative ways of using them.

For this visit to Singapore, Geshe Michael is very keen to reach out to both the Indian community from Singapore and Indian expats, as he feels that as the Indian economy soars, it is the perfect opportunity for Indian people to have the opportunity to 're-hear' the teachings that originally came from India; teachings that are essentially about how to be happy, financially successful, and socially responsible.

Geshe Michael will be teaching from the Prajnaparamita Sutra, spoken originally by the Buddha 2500 years ago. He'll take the essence of this teaching and present it in a way that anyone, from any religion, can use to be happier and more successful both financially and in their personal life.

Another year is coming to a close soon. 2010 has been such a fun year for me, I couldn't ask anything more. Thank you to the ONE above us, for blessing me with such a beautiful and fabulous year. Lots of people have come and gone this year. I am forever grateful that our path crossed and created an extraordinary journey and adventures. I wish you a life filled with happiness and colour.

While we are enjoying this moment, lets take some time to see how we can change the world to be a better place? Start with recycling to preserve mother earth, tell someone a joke, donate some of your income to charity, think only good things and wish the next person to you well. No effort is too small, everything matters!

RECIPE FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Take twelve whole months.

Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness,

hate, and jealousy.

Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.

Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or

thirty-one different parts,

A Few Balinese Ceremonies

Bali is renowned as being the island of the Gods. There are countless ceremonies at whatever time you visit the island throughout the year and you will have many opportunities to see religious ceremonies; at temples, in house compounds and even on the streets. Being in Bali lets you experience the endless series of offerings, purification, processions and dozens of other religious rites that Balinese devote their lives to.

Balinese culture revolves around Agama Hindu, the local version of Hinduism. The highlights of this culturally religious observance are the upacara (ceremonies) that are colourful and frequent. The most important ones are Galungan, Kuningan, Tumpek and Nyepi to name a few.

There are those ceremonies that a majority of travellers to Bali are unaware of. Here are just a few.

Bersih Desa: This 'ritual' is an expression of appreciation to the fertility Gods such as Dewi Sri. Subsequently, this ritual takes place around the period of the rice harvest. I suppose you could call it a 'village spring-clean'! Roads and paths in the village area are repaired. Houses and other buildings of importance are cleaned, as are most of the garden areas within the village. Whatever needs painting gets painted, and in general, the whole village is renewed in appearance.

Hari Raya Sariswati: Batari Dewi Saraswati, the beautiful goddess, was the wife of Brahma. She was the goddess of the arts, sciences and learning. This day is to commemorate her and nobody on the island is allowed to write or read for the day. Special ceremonies are conducted by a pedanda early in the morning at the Pura Jagatnatha temple in Denpasar. On this day, books are offered to be blessed by the Gods. Hari Raya Saraswati is a day of appreciation when wisdom was brought to the world by the Gods.

Pagerwesi: Literally interpreted means 'iron fence'. It is a day when man should fortify the space around himself to fend off evil spirits – the continuous battle between good and evil. Pagerwesi is a day of offerings requesting spiritual strength when confronting the life-cycles of suffering and worldly fulfillment. It is also a day of offerings for the protection of the village and families and the world around them. On this day, villagers take offerings to cemeteries for the un-cremated dead. As on the day Galungan, on the day of Pagerwesi 'penjors' are raised which makes it a day as almost as important as Galungan. You will find this ceremony almost strictly observed in the regency of Buleleng – the northern regions of Bali.

Melasti: The day before Nyepi. Everybody knows that the day of Nyepi is a day of silence, but, the day of Melasti is far from that and especially at night. It is a day when the villagers purify the deities – known as 'Pratima' – with water. This is the day when the villagers, dressed in their finery and carrying long-poled umbrellas, proceed in lines towards a source of water – a holy spring or the sea. In this procession, the women carry offerings of fruit and sweet cakes and flowers, and the men carry the sacred family statues on bamboo litters. Upon arriving at the water source (generally the sea), the pedanda prays and rings his small bells whilst the men carrying the litters rush the sacred figures into the water symbolically washing them and thus purifying the statues.

On the day of Melasti, you will also find the offerings of the flesh of domestic animals at crossroads – the haven of the evil spirits 'bhuta' and 'kala'. The offering of flesh is to placate these demons. Later in the evening, all hell breaks loose with all manner of noise and din created to awaken all the evil spirits and demons. This is the most spectacular part of this day.

There is also another very important ceremony called Eka Dasa Rudra. It is a ceremony to restore balance in the world and, is the most important and biggest religious ceremony on the island of Bali.

My japanese lunch

It's been such a long time since I cooked my very own Japanese meal. Today I was at Isetan orchard so I decided to get some sushi for late lunch. After all my stomach was still full from the pancake. So i filled my box with all of my favourite sushi and headed home. After few hours I was feeling a bit peckish, its time for sushi. While I was unpacking my sushi I realised I did have some soba noodle but no sauce though. I would love some cold cha soba with my sushi.

I opened the fridge and look around and found I had some ingredients to make a sauce. But I am trying to make a cold sauce so I had to be careful what I put inside. So I mixed sweet soy, dark soy and light soy with a bit of hot water. I've tasted the cold soba sauce many time it can't be far off then this. Of course my version is going to very Asian. Hahhahha I crumbled some chicken stock cube in to the sauce. I added more water and tasted it, not bad! But I had to simmer the sauce a bit just to dissolve the chicken cube. My noodles was almost done. I quickly submerged the noodles into ice filled water and my sauce was simmering away. I assembled the meal on a peranakan style plate to give a new twist. I've gone crazy. Here are some pictures and I must say it turn out quite well. I forgot to mention about the pappodom for the Indian touch.

I found the perfect pancake w real maple syrup outside. It's from a sandwich kiosk in the basement of plaza singapura. They do English breakfast as well. Small seating area. Price $8.50 for pancakes and good cup of coffee. The next time I will ask for more butter and ask the cashier to smile. Overall great experience. Wait till you here what I'm having for lunch.

Elephant gone MAD!!

This video was on TV the other day. My friends and myself watch it in a complete horror. The Elephant just went berserk and starting smashing anything that comes its way. More then 200 people was injured. Some damages to the properties around the area as well. I am not sure what happened to the caretaker.. Withers: Stay on marriage ban extended

A three panel judge extended the stay on same sex marriages in California. Last week Judge Vaughn Walker ruled gay couples could begin getting married on August 18th. He allotted six days for the Ninth Circuit to review his ruling. The ban will remain as the case works its way through the courts. Freedom to Mary issued a release, expressing disappointment but looking forward to the upcoming legal battles.

"But there are many twists in the road to justice, and we are encouraged by the court's setting a fast pace for the appeal, revealing that the judges understand how important a quick end to the exclusion from marriage is to gay couples, their loved ones, and all Americans who believe in equality under the law," said Evan Wolfson, the organization's executive director.

We'll write more about this tomorrow.

UPDATE: Jerry Brown, the state's attorney general, announced he would not appeal the stay. Oral arguments will be heard by the court in the first week of December.

In today's world of electronics you will usually find a button or application which will restore your electronic device to default or factory settings. After we have played around with the settings of our electronic devices and got the settings to a point where they no longer make sense to us we can choose to restore the settings of the device to the default settings, that is bring the device back to how it was configured the day it came out of the factory.

What if we had such a button or application built into us? What if we could somehow reset our self to our default setting? What if we could restore ourselves to the authentic being we were the day we were born into this human plane of existence? What would our default setting be?

In a recent comment Andrew of goodhonestdollar.com suggested that one of our default settings is mediocrity. Andrew made me think, what are our default settings? It is difficult for us to imagine what our default setting is when very often we are so far removed from our default setting, that is our authentic self. When our "norm" is based on who we are today it is a stretch to imagine what our true "norm" was at birth therefore attempting to configure our default setting from where we stand today is a very complex task.

To find our default setting we have to dig beneath years of layers of teachings, facts, myths, etc. We have to change our level of consciousness. I do not propose to tell you what your default setting is or what it should be. I can only suppose what our default setting is based on my experiences and my remembrances. I do believe our default settings would be as follows:

Love
Peace
Wisdom
Need for touch and community
Without limits
Purpose
Experience

I do believe we are love, that our core being is love and at our purest default setting we would find that we are love. I believe it is our nature to be at peace. I also believe we are born with the wisdom of the ages and that we are beings without limits and the limits we believe exist our self imposed. I also believe it is our nature to belong to our community for we are all connected and that we need touch for it is through touch that we validate our connections with each other. I also believe that we each are incarnated with a purpose and that part of that purpose is to experience this human journey to the fullest.

I also believe that we often lose sight of our purpose because we become lost in false selves and we spend much time seeking to return to our default setting, however we have a difficult time finding our way home and therefore lose sight of our true purpose for being here.

The good news is that we can restore our default settings. We do this through creating awareness of self, journeying within and remembering our authentic self.

VIENNA (Austria) - HUGE disparities between Western and Eastern Europe in tackling the AIDS virus mean the HIV crisis in the region is far from over, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Wednesday.

The UN health body said the rapidly rising rates of new HIV infections in countries such as Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia and Latvia meant the region as a whole now had world's the fastest growing epidemic.

'While HIV epidemics in Western Europe are, with some exceptions, generally stabilising, in many countries in Eastern Europe, they rage out of control,' Andrew Ball of the WHO's HIV/AIDS department told an international AIDS conference in Vienna.

'The rate of increase of new HIV infections in Europe is now the highest in the world.' Most of the increase is due to the spread of the virus among injecting drug users in places such as Russia and Ukraine, where addicts are often stigmatised and have limited access to HIV treatment or information.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS is spread in blood, breast milk and through sex and drug users can spread it by sharing used needles.

In the WHO's European region, which covers around 50 countries in Eastern and Western Europe, as well Central Asia, there were more than 1.2 million HIV cases by the end 2008, with more than 100,000

DUBAI (United Arab Emirates) - A DUBAI court reduced an Emirati cross-dresser's prison sentence from three years to one, paving the way for his imminent release, local newspapers reported on Wednesday.

'A student convicted of public indecency, cross-dressing, homosexuality, insulting a religious creed and having consensual homosexual relations had his sentence reduced on Tuesday from three years to one on appeal,' The National reported.

The 22-year-old student was arrested last July at Dubai International Airport as he was travelling 'to Europe with his male partner, another Emirati, who had been convicted of homosexuality and sentenced to a year in jail.'

The student was sentenced to three years in prison for having 'circulated materials that defied decency by posing in a provocative manner wearing women's make-up and in his underwear,' 7Days, another English-language daily, quoted Dubai's public prosecution as saying.

'At times he was also wearing swimsuits that revealed his buttocks and at other times he was wearing female clothes and accessories,' it added.

The Emirati, identified as M.N. by The National, was also accused of posing for photos which showed him reading the Koran while covering his head in a Muslim women's veil, or hijab, the dailies said

VIENNA - LAWS criminalising gay sex in many countries in the Asia-Pacific region is pushing infection rates of HIV and AIDS to 'alarming' levels, the United Nations Development Programme said on Wednesday.

'Some 19 of 48 countries in the Asia Pacific region continue to criminalise male-to-male sex,' UNDP said at the World AIDS Conference being held in Vienna this week.

'These laws often taken on the force of vigilantism, frequently leading to abuse and human rights violations. Correspondingly, HIV prevalence has reached alarming levels among men who have sex with men and transgender populations in many countries of the region,' the statement said.

A new report, commissioned by UNDP and the Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM), found that by criminalising gay men and transsexuals, people were being denied access to treatment and health services.

'Repressive legal environments institutionalise discrimination, limit funding and in effect obstruct the participation of men who have sex with men and transgender people in protecting themselves and their families, friends and communities from HIV,' said Jeff O'Malley, director of UNDP's HIV Practice.

And he called for the abolition of 'punitive laws and discriminatory practices.' APCOM head Shivananda Khan said that unnecessary infection could be prevented by ensuring that 'all citizens of a country, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity can access health services.' The report's author, John Goodwin said that 'comprehensive and rights-based HIV responses among men who have sex with men and transgender people can occur only when a conducive and enabling legal environment is created.' -- AFP

I have cute and adorable niece who recently turn two. This gives me an opportunity to visit my family in Kuala Lumpur. I flew in via tiger airways for the first time.

Got to KL around midnight followed by sumptuous supper at a chinese. It's been a long time since savoured the thick noodle with black. It was yummylicious. After a quick shower was off to bed.

My Saturday morning started with a visit to my brother's place. I wanted to pass the the clothes that I bought for my niece. She was crying due to stomachache but was rushed to the clinic. Did not get to see her all excited about the new clothes. Which she always is.

Haircut and massage was next. 3 hours of self pampering started. Full body massage, yogurt and turmeric body scrub and rose petal flower bath. I was rejuvenated with baby like skin. Got home and took another short nap.

My Saturday really started with coffee with a new friend then Nasi lemak for dinner. Jo was around the area and he decided to join me for a drink. This time alcohol. What followed was
Clubbing, breakfast at McD and I got home at 6am. Wow! what a night!

Sunday greeted with a bad hang over and headache. Gulp down as much as water I could. The birthday lunch was about to start and I wasn't quite ready yet. It was a full banana leaf south Indian lunch. The food was good but I was to involved in my hangover to fully appreciate it. Cake cutting was next.

My niece was really enjoying herself eating off banana leaf and walking around disturbing everyone nearby. Some of the proceeded to Sunway pyramid but u ended up in my bed again.

Well there were more food. Dinner at Chinese restaurant. Closed my eyes pass midnight. Woke up at four in the
Morning. Took a shower after watching Spain won the world cup 2010. I must add it was not a great game. I was glad did not watch it from the beginning.

My brother drove me to the airport and now waiting for My flight.

In many of my writings I speak of staying in the present, living in the moment, being in the "now" because that is the only real time there is and it is when our minds are in the moment that we can focus on what is at hand and not be distracted by thoughts of the past or fears of the future.

While we are living in the "now" and optimizing each moment it is also important that in this space we call "now" that we are also visionaries. It is the visionary person who sees and understands the grandeur of the possibilities of our journey. Being in the "now" does not negate the visionary, quite the opposite, being in the "now" allows us to see the reality before us and presents us the opportunity to envision changes that we desire to create.

When you review some of the most famous of leaders in different aspects of life you will find that they have a common thread among them and that was that each were visionaries, that each was able to see the future they wanted to create. Like a chess player those who have changed this world were able to see three to four moves ahead and plan their moves in a way that would create the reality that they desired. Some of the visionaries that come to mind are Gandhi, Buddha, Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, Alexander the Great, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers … the list goes on and on. There are also many people who were visionaries whose names we don't recall, people who invented the microchip, people who developed the internet, people who began the Red Cross, etc.

Look around and you will discover many visionaries who have or are impacting your life. Look towards your parents and consider how they were visionaries in regards to your growth and development, look in the mirror and consider how you have been a visionary at points along your journey.

Are you a visionary today, are you envisioning that which you want to create or are you head down and reacting to life as it happens?

It is important to note that having a vision does not mean that you have to look years ahead and possibly become overwhelmed with what lies ahead rather having a vision is simply the practice of raising your gaze and getting a new perspective. The key is to practice lifting your gaze often, practice looking a couple of moves ahead and understand and appreciate the journey you desire to create.

As a visionary develops and creates the journey he/she looks to the future without limits and sees what is not yet there and asks "why not?"

"If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise."

A person with vision is not shackled by the reality of today, a person with vision sees beyond what is and creates what is not yet. As Thomas Edison said "Vision without execution is hallucination" one must take action to create that which one envisions.

You are a creator; you have the ability to be a visionary and change your world and therefore change our world!

Finding Your Way Back To Now

A friend came over last evening for a visit. He is going through a rough divorce process, his finances are on the brink of bankruptcy, his wife and children are pushing every button he has and he is allowing this to happen and he is beginning for the first time in his life to lose focus when he is at work because his mind is always on his perceived problems and not present with what he is doing at the moment. He is a point where he is fearful of making any decision for he fears he will make the wrong one so he has made the decision to shut down and when he is not expected to do anything else he sleeps.

My friend finds refuge in sleep because when he is sleeping he is not of this world and is not burdened by all the thoughts that keep swimming through his mind about all the things that have happened in the past and all of things he fears about the future.

It is not unusual for someone who feels overwhelmed with problems to find a way to escape the ceaseless chatter of the mind, some sleep, some turn to alcohol or drugs, some turn to serial dating, some eat, … Whatever your choice is the reality is when you wake up, sober up or tire of participating in whatever avoidance technique you have chosen the issues are still present, they have not gone away.

The Tao Te Ching says "If you want to shrink something, you must first allow it to expand" This ancient wisdom is timeless as it reminds us that to shrink something or rather remove something instead of suppressing it and ignoring it we must first expand our awareness of it rather than run from the present moment. It is through staying present in the "now" that we are able to expand our awareness and it is through the expansion of our awareness that we are able to fully see what the issues at hand are and what steps we need to take to mitigate the issues that are driving us to feel overwhelmed.

Through awareness, through staying in the present moment we come to understand that the thoughts of the past are just that, thoughts, they are not the reality of the present and they serve no real purpose in this moment therefore we let them go. We also realize the stories we are building our mind about the future again are just thoughts, they are fears about events that have not yet happened and we almost always create a fear greater than what reality will be.

When we bring ourselves back to the present moment and let go of the past and let go of the fears of future we can then allow that which we wish to shrink to expand and it is through this expansion that we are able to take decisive steps to resolve the issues at hand.

If you are unsure how to quiet your mind and return to the "now" I suggest you do a simple exercise of focusing on your breathing. You will find that as you focus on your breathing that you will begin to focus on the moment and the mind chatter of the past and the future will dissipate.

Another exercise is to stop and ask yourself "Where do I go when I am not here", that is are you thinking about the past or the future, if you are not "here" then where are you? Note, wherever your thoughts are that is where you are, you are your thoughts, your thoughts are you, there is no separation of self from thought.

Become aware of where you are and bring yourself back to the present for it is in present that you will find the peace and love that you desire!

MOSCOW - MOSCOW city hall has banned a gay pride march planned for later this month, citing security reasons, organiser Nikolai Alexeyev said on Thursday.

'They called me and said they banned it. We don't yet have the paper,' Mr Alexeyev told AFP, saying that he would contest the decision in court.

The organisers of the Slavic Gay Pride event had requested to hold a march on May 29 down a street in central Moscow, but the city hall turned down the request without offering an alternative route, Mr Alexeyev said. 'There was no alternative. They gave the same reason as last year, about security and the possibility of riots,' Mr Alexeyev said.

Last year, Mr Alexeyev led a small number of protesters, including British activist Peter Tatchell, at an unsanctioned demonstration, which was roughly broken up by riot police.

The city hall has banned gay pride marches for five years running. Mayor Yury Luzhkov has openly expressed homophobic views, calling gay parades 'Satanic' and saying that Russian society is not ready for such events.

During a talk show on gay rights aired on national television Monday, 84 per cent of telephone voters said they would not want to see a gay parade in their home town. -- AFP

In May 2006, the remains of U.S. Fort Montgomery, a stone fortification in upstate New York built in 1844, were put up for auction on eBay. The first auction ended on June 5, 2006, with a winning bid of $5,000,310. However, the sale was not completed, and the fort and lands surrounding it remain for sale and have been relisted on the site several times since.[60][61]

In February 2004, a scrapped F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet was listed on eBay by Mike Landa, of Landa and Associates, with a starting bid of $1,000,000. He was the legal owner of the plane after purchasing it from a scrap yard and also offered to have the plane restored for flying condition for a Buy It Now price of $9,000,000. In December 2005, a brussels sprout cooked on Christmas Day was listed by "crazypavingpreacher" (Andrew Henderson of Darlington, England). It sold for £99.50 on 4 January 2006. The sprout had been frozen and was sent by first class post in insulated packaging to the buyer, "5077phil". The listing was reported in the Daily Star, making the front page (and was followed by a series of "copycat" listings of various vegetables). The proceeds of the sale were donated to Tearfund, a major Christian relief and development agency working in the third world. This sprout was the first cooked brussels sprout to be sold on eBay.[64]

In January 2006, a British man named Leigh Knight sold an unwanted brussels sprout left over from his Christmas dinner for £1550 in aid of cancer research.[65][66]

Post India thoughts - Food

After finished writing my India travelogue I got into a lot of thinking. Never before a country has affected me in so many angle. I don't know where to start. The Tamils calls India - Thai Nadu (motherland). Maybe that's the primary reason. The motherland pulled me close to her bosom and refuse to let me go. I've decided to take my time and explore, discover and fall in love with her. I will be sharing my thoughts through my blog posts entitled - Post India thoughts. Each post will explore different aspects of my trip and how it has changed me?

Lets start from the very beginning, a very good banana leaf to start.....

Food offering from a typical south indian restaurant

Any travel reminiscence will not be complete without food. In the context of India, its a culinary splendour and adventure of it's own right. The abundance of food choices in Tamil Nadu is mind-boggling. Please don't expect your usual global food here (which I believe available in Chennai and main cities). The menus here comprises of too-die-for Thali , endless dips for your thosai , fluffy Vaadai and I almost forget the bru-coffee served in silver tumblers that only last two gulps for me. Indian drink their coffee after the meal, unlike me who like to start with coffee. This usually creates stares, since I order not one but two tumblers of coffee and drink with my meal.

South Indian food is equally well known in the world like the their northern counterpart. For a common eye, each menu looks the same and the variety in offer are limited. Coming from Malaysia or Singapore, we tend to over-compare with what's offered in our shores. Don't expect wanton-noodles, nasi briyani or even char kway teow served in the same streets or hawker centres (non-existence in India).

Menus are standard all over the places I've been. You have meals which usually consists of several vegetables, two or more curries, sambar, rasam, papadom, ghee, yogurt, pickle all served to you in all-you-can-eat style on banana leaves. The idea is to get you full and leave the restaurant with full satisfaction. Bless the Indians! We may feel a bit intimidated by the constant request from the server (waiter) to add more and strict protocol eating a thali meal. Back home we like to mix and match. Fried rice with dumplings, carrot cake, kuih for dessert and constantly washing it down with sugar-ladden carbonated drinks or sweet tea.

Thali meal served across India

In India its a whole new story. Eating is taken almost like a ritual not just to feed the hunger. A typical meal starts with mountains of rice separated to smaller hills. First the papadome and the first hill is drenched with Rasam (a kind sourish consome) and eaten. Then follows with Sambar and other remaining curries. All is washed done with a cooling yogurt to help with digestion. Finish your meal proudly with sweets like gulab jamun or payasam. I know all looks and sound divine, but I wanted to put them on bullet forms so its easier to follow. Remember its a ritual, a strict adherence is mandotory. Please try it once, the end results are different. Don't rush the meal like we do, take your time and enjoy!

Method for Eating a south Indian thali.

1. Eat pappadam. Remove all small bowls and place them around your platter (banana leaf). Get rid of the spoon-a proper Indian would never bother with it. Push the chappati to the side. At this point, a waiter will come and spoon a heap of rice onto your platter.

2. Dump the curries/dahls, one by one (there is a proper order, but I don't know it-all I know is that curd comes last) or all at once onto the rice, saving halwa for dessert. Mix with the fingers of your right hand. You know you always wanted to eat finger food, and you've finally arrived at a place where it's considered good manners to do so!

3. Scoop up mouthfuls of rice/curry mixture, with or without the help of a chappati. You can use your left hand if necessary to dump curry on, or push items onto your right hand, but don't actually use it to eat-left hands are traditionally reserved for toilet duties. Keep in mind that Indian bathrooms do not have toilet paper. You get the picture.

4. Mmmm! Mmmm! If at some point you run out of a favorite curry, flag the waiter down and he will refill your little metal bowl.

5. Eat halwa or sweets

I did not have much thali for some hygeine reason, but when I had one it was ever so satisfying. Eating off banana leaves never looked more cool.. or using your hand.. going back to basic I say.

Talking about food is never complete without sweets. A story about it deserves a post on it's own.

Arrive at Chennai airport at 945am

 Melmaruvathur AdhiParasakthi Sakthi Peetam - Melmaruvathur ( மேல்மருவத்தூர்) is a town situated on NH-45 between Chennai and Kanyakumari. It is 92 kilometers from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. The famous Adi Parasakthi Temple is situated here. It is well connected by trains and buses from Chennai and elsewhere. The Temple is of immense significance. The Sanctum Sanctorium of the temple houses a suyambu which, according to people who go there year after year, keeps growing. The temple is visited by people from all over the world. Locals also tell the story of Bangaru Adigalar, who is commonly known as Amma.

 Auroville - is an experimental township which is situated 8 km north-west of Puducherry in East Coast Road. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Richard (also known as The Mother), the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. Auroville was designed by the French architect Roger Anger.  Manakula Vinayagar Temple - was in existence before the French came and settled in Pondicherry i.e. before 1666. ]It has a golden spire and walls portraying forty different forms of Ganesha. The temple also has a smaller shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan, who is Ganesha’s younger brother. Over 5000 devotees flock to this site everyday. There is also a temple elephant, Lakshmi, who give blessing to the devotees

It is believed that a bath in the holy waters of the Siddhamirtham tank within the temple complex will cure all diseases.

 SwamiMalai Murugan Temple - is a Hindu temple located in the township of Swamimalai, 250 km from Chennai and is near to Kumbakonam and Thanjavur in . It is one of the Arupadaiveedu, believed to be the six main abodes of Muruga.

 Drove to Rameswaram is a town in Ramanathapuram district in the n state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on Pamban Island separated from mainland by the Pamban channel and is about 50 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, is connected to mainland by the Pamban Bridge. Rameswaram is the terminus of the railway line from Chennai and Madurai. Together with Kashi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimages. Hence, it is a bustling pilgrim centre. It is situated in the Gulf of Mannar at the very tip of the n peninsula. According to legend, this is the place from where Lord Rama built a bridge Ram Setu (also known as Adam's Bridge) across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita from her abductor Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage centre which is known as the Varanasi of the south.

 Ramanathaswamy Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to god Shiva located in the island of Rameswaram in the state of Tamil Nadu, . According to Shaiva mythology, Lord Rama is believed to have prayed to Shiva here to absolve any sins that he might have committed during his war against the demon king Ravana. The temple is one of the holiest Hindu Char Dham shrines that has to be visited in one's lifetime and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holy abodes of Lord Shiva[1].

 Ramarpadam Temple - Footsteps of Lord Rama

 Pamban Bridge - பாம்பன் பாலம் on the Palk Strait connects Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland . It refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. It was 's first sea bridge. It is the second longest sea bridge in (after Bandra-Worli Sea Link) at a length of about 2.3 km.

 Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple or Meenakshi Amman Temple மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோவில் is an historic Hindu temple located in the holy city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, . It is dedicated to Lord Shiva (in the form of Sundareswarar or Beautiful Lord) and his consort, Goddess Parvati (in the form of Meenakshi). The temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2500 year old city of Madurai. The complex houses 14 magnificent Gopurams or towers including two golden Gopurams for the main deities, that are elaborately sculptured and painted. The temple is a significant symbol for the Tamil people, and has been mentioned since antiquity in Tamil literature, though the present structure is believed to have been built in 1600[1]. The tallest temple tower is 51.9 metres (170 ft) high[1].

 Heading to Trichy / Tiruchirappalli

 Rockfort or Ucchi Pillayar koil, is a combination of two famous 7th century Hindu temples, one dedicated to Lord Ganesh and the other dedicated to Lord Shiva, located a top of a small rock in Trichy, . Geologically the 83m high[1] rock is said to be one of the oldest in the world, dating over 3 billion years ago, and mythologically this rock is the place where Lord Ganesh ran from King Vibishana, after establishing the Ranganathaswamy deity in Srirangam.

 The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu. It is the first and foremost among the 108 Divya Desams, the holy abodes of Lord Vishnu. It is also considered to be one among the eight Svayam Vyakta Ksetras ("self-manifested shrines") of Lord Vishnu.[1] The temple is also well known for it's architectural grandeur. The annual 21 day chariot festival conducted during the month of Margazhi (Dec-Jan) attracts lot of visitors. Everyday during the festival, the sacred Vaishnavite text, Tiruvaimozhi is recited before Lord Ranganatha. Srirangam temple is often listed as the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world (Angkor Wat being the largest non-functioning temple). The temple occupies an area of 156 acres (6,31,000 m²) with a perimeter of 1,116m (10,710 feet) making it the largest temple in [2] and one of the largest religious complexes in the world. The temple is enclosed by 7 concentric walls (termed prakarams or mathil suvar) with a total length of 32,592 feet or over six miles. These walls are enclosed by 21 Gopurams. The space within the outer two prakarams is occupied by several shops, restaurants and flower stalls.

 Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is a Hindu temple in Samayapuram near Trichy / Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, . The main deity, Samayapurathal or Mariamman is made of sand and clay like many of the traditional Mariamman deities, and hence unlike many other Hindu deities there are no abhishekams (sacred washing) conducted to the main deity, but instead the "abishekam" is done to the small stone statue in front of it.

It is believed by the devotees that the Goddess has enormous powers over curing illnesses[1] and hence, it is a ritual to buy small metallic replicas, made with silver or steel, of various body parts that need to be cured, and these are deposited in the donation box

Devotees also offer mavilakku, a sweet dish made of jaggery, rice flour and ghee. [2] Offerings of raw salt is also made to the Goddess by the rural devotees.

The temple attracts hundreds of devotees on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, the holy days for Mariamman. Samayapuram is the second most wealthy (in terms of cash flows) temple in Tamilnadu after Palani.

 Annamalaiyar Temple (Arunachaleswara in Sanskrit) is a noted Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at the bottom of the Annamalai hill in Thiruvannamalai town in Tamilnadu, . It is the home of Annamalaiyar or Arunachaleswarar (Lord Shiva worshipped as a Shiva Lingam) and Unnamalaiyaal (Apitakuchambaal - Parvati), and is one of the largest temples in .

It occupies a special place in the Saivite realm and is regarded as one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams (one of the five grand temples associated with the five basic elements) – associated with the element Fire; the other four being Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara (water), Chidambaram Natarajar (sky), Kanchi Ekambareswara (earth) and Kalahasti Nathar (wind).

It is said that the Saivite saint poet Manikkavasagar composed the Tiruvempaavai while at Thiruvannamalai.

 The golden temple of Sripuram is a Spiritual park situated at the foot of a small range of green hills in a place known as "Malaikodi" in the city of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, . The temple is at the southern end of the city of Vellore, at Tirumalaikodi.

 The Kamakshi Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated toKamakshi, one of the forms of the goddess Parvati. It is located in the historic city of Kanchipuram, near Chennai, and is popularly associated with Sankaracharya, one of the greatest Hindu gurus. The Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, the Akilandeswari temple in Thiruvanaikaval near Tiruchirappalli and this Kamakshi are the important centers of worship of Parvati as the mother goddess, in the state of Tamil Nadu. The temple was most probably built by the Pallava kings, whose capital was Kanchipuram, around 6 C.E.

 Tiruthani Murugan temple is a famous Hindu temple, in South , dedicated to Lord Muruga. It is one of the Arupadaiveedu, the six holy abodes of Lord Muruga. The other five are;

Palani (100 km west of Madurai),

Swamimalai (150 km east of Madurai),

Tirupparangunram (5 km from Madurai),

Pazhamudircholai (10 km north of Madurai) and

Thiruchendur (100 km south of Madurai).

The temple is located in the township of Tiruttani 50 km north of Chennai en route to Tirupathi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Murugan married Valli, the daughter of a hunting tribe cheiftain, here.

 Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is a famous Hindu temple of Lord Venkateswara located in the hill town Tirumala, near Tirupati in the Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh, . The temple is situated on Venkatadri, one of the seven hills of Tirumala, and hence is also known as the Temple of Seven Hills (Saptagiri in Sanskrit). The presiding deity of the temple, Lord Venkateswara, is also known by other names - Balaji, Govinda and Srinivasa.

The temple is reportedly the richest and the most visited place of worship in the world.[1] The temple is visited by about 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims daily, while on special occasions and festivals, like the annual Brahmotsavam, the number of pilgrims shoots up to 500,000, making it the most visited holy place in the world.[2]

According to legend, the temple has a self-manifested murti (idol) of Lord Venkateswara, believed to have resided there for the entire Kali Yuga[

 Marina Beach - The 15 km long and 400 to 500 meter wide Marina Beach features the Light House, memorials, statues, walkways, gardens and drives alongside the beach front.

Towards the south of the city of Chennai, Elliot's Beach in Besant Nagar is preferred by younger Chennaiites with its promenade, restaurants and coffee shops.[citation needed] There are a quite a number of beaches and resorts between Elliot’s Beach and Mahabalipuram, along East Coast Road. The most notable of these is Covelong Beach which has a cove and a fort built by the Nawab of the Carnatic.[2]
